The College of Teachers are currently recruiting for the following positions:

Full Time Playgroup Teacher.  We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative person to join our established Early Years Department, in the role of Playgroup Teacher.  The successful candidate will have a rounded knowledge, good experience and qualification in Steiner Waldorf Education specific to Early Years pedagogy, as well as a comprehensive appreciation of The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) criteria and ualification to at least NVQ level 3. The essential qualities needed for this post are the ability to meet the needs of a group of children aged 3 to 4 years, to work with families and contribute to the daily running of our thriving Early Years setting.   Deadline: Tuesday 16th October 2013.

Cover/Supply Teachers.  We occasionally require teachers for sick cover and absences, sometimes, but not always, at short notice.  If you are a qualified and experienced teacher, preferably with a Steiner Waldorf background, please contact the Administrator at [email protected] for further information.

Brighton Steiner School is a vibrant, forward-looking school with a student/parent body that reflects the cosmopolitan energy of this beautiful city by the sea. The school was started in 1984 out of the will and desire of a small group of parents and has grown to have an established pupil base of 240. We currently have a number of Parent & Toddler groups, two Kindergartens and Main School Classes through to Class 10. The Upper School was developed 7 years ago, successfully delivering a rounded embrace of Steiner pedagogy and GCSE syllabus material.

Procedure
1. Vacancies may only be filled after a job description detailing the reason for the vacancy and person specification have been notified to the Management Team and approval has been received. Where the job is to be advertised, the proposed advertisement must be submitted to the administrator for approval.
2. Copies of all advertisements (where appropriate) will be placed in the school weekly newsletter which is distributed to all staff.
3. Staff concerned with recruitment must ensure that they comply fully with the organisations equal opportunities policy at every stage of the recruitment process.
4. A decision to shortlist, interview or offer employment will take no account of an applicants trade union membership or non-membership.
5. Unless otherwise justified, a decision to shortlist, interview, employ or engage the services of any person will be taken without regard to the applicants gender, marital status, race, colour, nationality, national or ethnic origins, religion or belief, sexual orientation, age or (unless justified) disability.
6. All job applications will be acknowledged within two weeks of receipt.
7. External applicants who are invited to an interview will be given directions to the school, told where they will be met and an outline of the form of the interview, and appropriate personnel (receptionist and all those who will be attending the interview) must be informed that they are expected.
8. Where appropriate, skills tests will form part of the interview. Interviews for teaching staff will involve observations of teaching more than one class.
9. Shortlists for interviews will be decided by the appropriate pedagogical group and discussed by College. Applicants who are not shortlisted must be informed of this fact as soon as possible. The originals of documents provided by unsuccessful candidates (eg, in support of their right to work in the UK) must be returned to them by secure means. This will be done by the receptionist.
10. When a suitable candidate has been identified, a job offer will be made subject to satisfactory references, proof of qualifications, sight of relevant documentation confirming the individuals right to work in the UK, provision of a CRB Disclosure (with a Barrred List check) and a completed medical questionnaire (for teaching staff) that is acceptable to the employer.
11. Each offer letter must be accompanied by a statement of the terms and conditions of employment relating to that position that will be signed by both the employee and a member of the Board of Trustees, one copy being retained by the employee and one by the administrator to be kept in staff files.
12. In the case of internal promotions or transfers, the employee must be sent a letter confirming the variation to his or her terms and conditions eg salary. Details of any planned induction should also be sent with this letter, eg outlining any training and development, coaching or work shadowing.
13. Appointments will not be confirmed, nor starting dates set, until satisfactory replies have been received from referees, proof of qualifications submitted by the employee, the required CRB Disclosures (with ISA Barred List checks) applied for, the medical questionnaire reviewed and documentation confirming the individuals right to work in the UK seen and copied.
14. Once the starting date has been agreed, the Health and Safety Officer and the Administrator must be informed in order that the induction programme can be arranged and appropriate departments notified.
15. All appointments will be made subject to a satisfactory probationary period. New employees progress will be monitored closely by their supervisor during this period and they will be interviewed mid-probation at three months and then have a probation interview after six months employment. A recommendation should be discussed and agreed at the probation interview as to whether the employment should be confirmed, extended or terminated.
