About Brighton & Hove

Brighton & Hove is a sparkling and cosmopolitan city on the south coast of England. It has been a popular seaside resort since the eighteenth century after the Prince of Wales, later George IV, built the famously exotic Royal Pavilion.

Beautiful Regency architecture and Victorian gardens co-exist with state-of-the-art public buildings, such as the brand new North Laines library, and shopping area.

Designated one of Britain's twelve Arts Cities, Brighton & Hove is the cultural capital of the south coast. In May, the Brighton Festival takes over the city with the biggest arts fiesta in England, and all year round you can be entertained by everything from opera and dance to fringe theatre, comedy and the best live music.

Brighton & Hove has one of the best selections of unusual and specialist shops, catering for all tastes. There are over 400 restaurants, offering food from around the world.

Brighton boasts two Universities and numerous further education colleges as well as being home to a large number of language schools, making student life rich, varied and multicultural.

The sea, an ever-changing backdrop to life in Brighton & Hove, provides opportunities for relaxation and watersports, whilst the beautiful, rolling South Downs to the north are the perfect place for nature lovers, walkers and cyclists. Brighton & Hove is superbly placed for travel too: London is only 50 minutes by rail, Gatwick Airport is 30 minutes away and a Seacat ferry ride will get you to Dieppe from Newhaven in less than two hours.
