Singing Tree have just had two gardening weeks, when we had a long outdoor play with plenty of seed sowing, sweeping and weeding (see the pictures below). We harvested Mother Earth’s heap for our vegetable beds, planted new strawberry plants and some or the strawberry runner plants.The children loved sowing many vegetable seed ‘babies’. Courgettes for the garden and also to take home, peas, leeks, decorative gourds, garlic, radishes, beetroot, salad leaves and also potatoes. Indoors we watch the pots of french beans waking up in the warmth of the kindergarten. One child brought in some sweet pumpkin seeds this morning, so we found some more pots for them. We now have plenty for the children to water in the morning.
For snack we had some green courgette chips with our millet, one day we will make them from our own kindergarten grown courgettes!
We are even trying to grow some redwood trees from seeds I found, though I am not sure that parents will want to plant them in their gardens if they do take!
We are also recycling wooden packaging from the farm, (see above) into a new long vegetable planter for the leeks, we have the membrane and just need to add soil.
