Brighton Steiner School
The school currently offers a full Steiner curriculum from age 3 to age
14. We offer 5 parent & toddler sessions for children from birth
to age 3. Last year we developed an Upper School which commenced September
2001 and educates children up to age 16 and with GCSEs.
Parent and Toddler Groups (0 - 3yrs)
Children from birth come with their parents to play, sing, share a snack
and celebrate the festivals of the year in a simple way, appropriate to
their age. We try to keep a balance between the needs of small children
and the needs of their parents, for whom the Toddler group often provides
an important outing in the week to share with their child, as well as
the companionship of other adults. It is a wonderful first introduction
to Steiner education.
Playgroup (Age 3/4)
Play group is the first step on the bridge. On one side lies the home
or Parent/Toddler group, on the other, the world of school, which the
child will explore independently in the fullness of time. To cross the
bridge children are given the feeling of safety and plenty of warmth and
encouragement. The two mornings a week groups are small, with a short
morning and simple familiar activities providing the first steps toward
the world of school. Sensitive adults are always there to provide a steadying
hand if needed.
Kindergarten (4- 6 yrs)
The curriculum offered to the Brighton Steiner School Kindergarten child
is structured to respond to and enhance the first seven years of childhood.
It is considered vital to preserve and foster the vitality and imagination
of the young child and so formal concepts are not taught daring these
years. However, the curriculum broadly integrates all subject areas within
a day-to-day rhythm and the yearly flow of seasonal changes and major
festivals.
After School Care (3 - 7 yrs)
This is available for the children of class I and below.
Lower School
The Lower School caters for children from six to fourteen. The children
have the same teacher
from Class I to 8.. This Class Teacher provides the pastoral care during
that period and ideally will take the main Lesson and some subject lessons
right through the Lower School. As the class gets older an increasing
number of subject teachers are introduced.
Upper School (14 - 16 yrs)
We offer a full Steiner curriculum and core GCSE’s |
