The first years of life are a time of wonder and imagination. Our Early Years department helps children to become secure as they grow strong, physically and emotionally.

Parent and Toddler Groups (upto 3 yrs) Children come from an early age with their parents to play, sing, share a snack and celebrate the festivals of the year in a simple way, appropriate to their age. We try to keep a balance between the needs of small children and the needs of their parents, for whom the Toddler group often provides an important outing in the week to share with their child, as well as the companionship of other adults. It is a wonderful introduction to Steiner education. |
Playgroup (3 to 4 yrs)
Play group is the first step on the bridge. On one side lies the home of Parent & Toddler group, on the other, the world of school, which the child will explore independently in the fullness of time. To help them cross the bridge, children are given the feeling of safety and plenty of warmth and encouragement. The two mornings a week groups are small, with a short morning and simple, familiar activities providing the first steps towards school. Sensitive adults are always there to provide a steadying hand if needed.

Kindergarten (4 to 6 yrs) The curriculum offered to the Brighton Steiner School Kindergarten child is structured to respond to and enhance the first seven years of childhood. It is considered vital to preserve and foster the vitality and imagination of the young child and so formal concepts are not taught during these years. However, the curriculum broadly integrates all subject areas within a day-to-day rhythm and the yearly flow of seasonal changes and major festivals. |

We currently offer afternoon care to kindergarten and Class 1 children on four days per week, Monday through to Thursday. The children enjoy a time of free play, simple crafts and stories with two of our Early Years teachers.
